Mark Johnston's filly still seems to be improving

This son of Frankel, out of a dam who won as a two-year-old and was Listed-placed over a mile, possesses a wonderful physique.

He took a severe tug under Silvestre de Sousa, but the rider soon got him to relax after two furlongs. Things got a little tight after he struck the front, but he prevailed by a short head. He will have no problems stepping up to a mile in the near future.

Bathsheba Bay stepped forward from his debut to run an honourable second. Given his pedigree, he should also get further.

Blue Laureate is tall but looked green throughout the preliminaries and inexperienced on the way round. He will appreciate this first experience.

The medium-sized Bold Reason has plenty of winners in his pedigree, but he retreated pretty quickly having got a soft lead.

Wax And Wane looked straight for his debut and seemed to travel well until halfway, after which he showed signs of greenness.
Keep an eye on Sam Gold. He refused to enter the stalls but is a good-looking horse.

Tajaanus
Winner, Star Stakes, 7f Listed race, Sandown, Thursday, July 27
A competitive field of fillies lined up for this Listed event and this daughter of Arcano did well to win having been very unlucky in the Empress Stakes at Newmarket when last seen.

As she entered the parade ring, the first thing that struck me was how relaxed she was. She travelled smoothly in the race and responded well to pressure after Jim Crowley struck for home outside the furlong marker. Looking at her physique, I still think there is still improvement to be drawn out of her.

The once-raced Capomento looked fit, but physically she is far from the finished article. Held up towards the back, she made relentless progress on the outside and only just failed. This was a massive step up on her win at Ripon over 6f.

So Hi Society looked very fit and has run consistently all season, but she lacks scope.

Cape Bunting is a well-made type. She lost her unbeaten record, but you can put that down to the soft ground.

Sixth, 7f novice stakes, Ascot, Friday, July 28
This Shamardal filly is related to numerous winners including the smart Stellar Mass but hasn’t filled her frame yet. She seemed to travel comfortably, but once the pace quickened she lost touch and it was not until well inside the last furlong that she picked up again. She will benefit from an extra furlong.

Give And Take, a daughter of first-season sire Cityscape who is related to Gold Cup winner Fame And Glory, looked pretty well for her debut.

Green as the stalls opened, she took a while to find her rhythm but I was impressed by the way she picked up late.

Expressiy, a round-barrelled juvenile by Siyouni, looked fit and produced a taking appearance. I am sure she can go forward from this and make her mark next time out.

The once-raced Indicia had improved from her first start but she was wheel-spinning on the ground.

Stream Song, who is related to the very smart Journey, is a very nice type, but paddock inspection suggested the run was needed. I expect a better showing on her next start.
