With only 13 runners, the William Hill Two Year Old Trophy (3.20) at Redcar is considerably less competitive than it has been in the past, and the market front two of Satellite Of Love and Revels have a clear form edge on their rivals.
They might well press home that edge, but they have had a few goes to find their level, and there are at least a couple with a lot more upside on what they have done so far, although they will need it.
Thames Waterman is the one who excites after winning with his head in his chest on his two previous outings at Wolverhampton, and this race has been the target for a while according to trainer Richard Hughes.
He admittedly doesn't have a lot to recommend him on Racing Post Ratings as his peak effort was a 76 last time, but he gave 10lb and a fair thrashing to a horse who had run to 60 on debut. Thames Waterman was a 1-9 chance to do so, so the word has obviously been out that he's considerably better than your standard novice.
"He's very good and very fast," said Hughes after that latest win when Thames Waterman was considered only half-fit, so there's plenty of hope he can put up a big display and take advantage of the 7lb he gets from the top pair, being by one of the cheaper (but definitely value for money) sires in Rajasinghe.
