Paul Kealy's play of the day at Ascot

Angel Hunter

5.15 Ascot

Crack On Boys and Wujjood are the top-rated pair in the closing classified stakes (5.15), but I like the way Angel Hunter has shaped on his two runs since being out for a year, and the step up to a mile may help him to improve past them.

The Richard Hannon-trained three-year-old bagged a £100k nursery at York's Ebor meeting last year, and while the ground will be markedly softer here, he seems to handle cut well enough.

He ran well for a long way before fading late on his return over 7f here last month, and saw his race out better just nine days later at Doncaster, finishing strongly to work his way into midfield. On that evidence this extra furlong will help, and he is a half-brother to a mile winner who stayed as far as 1m2f, so there is hope there, too.
