King Roly
The 2m4f novice handicap chase (2.10) at Perth is a cracker which features runners from many yards that do well here.
Olly Murphy, Gordon Elliott and Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore can be counted among them, but so can Mickey Bowen. His father Peter used to love a winner at Perth, and Mickey already has five victories from ten runners at the track since starting his training career in his own right.
Bowen saddles King Roly, who was responsible for two of his stable’s victories at the track when winning over course and distance in August and September last year. He sandwiched those two runs with a second here and has a big chance on his return to Perth, where his record reads 12121.
King Roly appears to have been freshened up for a crack at this race because he hasn’t been seen since finishing a close fourth in a 2m4f novice handicap chase at Hexham in October. That race was run at a strong pace, and the selection probably went off too quickly to hold on.
He was still beaten just three and a half lengths in fourth of five, and the two who finished either side of him that day have gone on to win five times between them. That was evidently strong form, and King Roly has a huge chance racing off the same mark here.
