Ayr Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with picks for day one of the Gold Cup meeting

With so many runners declared, the Ayr card looks perfect for a Placepot and Chuzzlewit rates banker material in the opening 7f novice (1.20). He was thought good enough to run in the Gimcrack at York last time and had previously shown promise when debuting at Redcar.

Chuzzlewit is saddled by Kevin Ryan and the trainer has the one to beat in the following mile novice (1.50) in the shape of Hi Royal, who was third in a traditionally hot maiden at York.

The 5f handicap (2.25) is more difficult and I'll take three against the field. Refuge is consistent and looks good for a place, while Tanasoq and Bonito Cavalo also appeal.

The 1m2f handicap (3.00) is another tough race. Revich won at this meeting last season and shaped well when third at Goodwood two starts ago. Al Mubhir looks the main danger.

Misty Dancer is one of my best bets of the day and can be relied upon in the 1m2f fillies' handicap (3.35), but two might be needed in the first division of the mile handicap (4.10). Cisco Disco had some good form in Ireland and goes in alongside course winner Tommy G.
