Paul Kealy with his Placepot perm on a tricky Ascot card
Three big-field handicaps and a 19-runner juvenile race are four of the six contests facing Placepot punters on day two at Royal Ascot and, with no more than three places available for any of the races, it's going to take some getting.
At least there are also three places in the seven-runner Prince of Wales's Stakes as that's how it works in Hong Kong, but that shouldn't be a hard race to solve.
In fact, it probably makes sense simply to bank on favourite Japan, who needs to perform below his best to be out of the top three. That will help keep the perm down, but I'll be going down to 10p units to keep the cost manageable.
Everybody wanted the stands' side after race one yesterday, but it doesn't necessarily mean that will be the case again as we've seen so-called biases change before.
Still, it makes sense to cover both sides and I'll be going with my outsider Hortzadar from a low draw in the opener and adding , Zhui Feng and Nicklaus.
In the Hampton Court Stakes (1.50) we'll keep it at two, with joined by , who has been a name on many lips over the last few days.
In the third leg (2.25) it's hard to leave out the obviously well-handicapped Kipps, while has the potential to develop into a classy staying handicapper at least and they will be my two against the field as they both look very classy.
I think Willie John (3.35) will run well too and we'd better have at least one drawn very high, which will be Fox Premier, who remains a horse with a bit of promise.
If you've managed to get this far you've only got 19 juveniles to sort out and it's really difficult given any two-year-old can improve a huge amount after just one run.
I liked the way Astimegoesbybroke and travelled when he was third on his debut and he can run well for George Boughey back at 5f, while looked really fast for Archie Watson.
and will be my other two, but your guess really is as good as mine.
