Owen's Outsiders: 25-1 and 12-1 selections for ITV's Boxing Day races
Eldorado Allen
2.30 Kempton
1pt each-way at 25-1
I do think Bravemansgame is the most likely winner of the King George, but Eldorado Allen should not be a 25-1 shot and has excellent each-way claims for Joe Tizzard.
The market seems to have forgotten his flooring of Royale Pagaille in last season's Denman Chase and he shaped better than the bare result when three and a half lengths behind Bravemansgame in the Charlie Hall in October.
He was giving him 3lb that day and a subsequent second in the Betfair Chase at Haydock was better than at first glance, given that Protektorat could be the new Bristol De Mai.
Will he be good enough to win a King George? The jury is out, but he has less question marks to answer than Hitman, who has stamina to prove, and Royale Pagaille, who is not sure to love the sharp test.
With three places on offer, this proven and consistent eight-year-old could easily snag a place late on under Brendan Powell.
Zanza
1.35 Wetherby
1pt each-way at 12-1
The last ten runnings of this race have gone to a seven or eight-year-old and although he is not a huge price, Zanza is still overpriced for the fiercely competitive Rowland Meyrick.
He is a very quirky sort but on his day, he is exceptionally talented. That was proven at Newbury last time, where he made a mockery of a mark of 134.
The blinkers have brought him back to life in recent starts and a 10lb rise for his most recent win still sees him fairly treated, as he was beaten just two lengths in a valuable Cheltenham handicap at last year's December meeting off 1lb higher.
He is not certain to back up his recent heroics, but provided the blinkers continue to have a positive effect, he can certainly acquit himself well.
Prices correct at the time of publication: 6pm, Sunday December 25
