Oriental Mystique the Pinnacle pick to win slow and steady spread race
Oriental Mystique
2.55 Haydock
Buy at 23 on the index
The talented Cabaletta will wear blinkers for the first time in the Pinnacle Stakes, but she already has a reputation for blowing hot and cold and must put another tame effort on reappearance behind her.
Less sexy but more reliable is Oriental Mystique, who appeals as just the right sort of bet for the index. She is 23 to buy, which would result in a small profit were she to finish second – say to a more capable but less dependable rival like Cabaletta – and a hefty lift if she were to win.
If Cabaletta does not bring her A-game, Oriental Mystique's backers would have every right to expect to cop the lot. She went close at Group 2 level last year, on good to soft ground over this trip at Longchamp, and ran a couple of classy mares close at Goodwood on her own reappearance.
Oisin Murphy takes over in the saddle and he is rarely caught out tactically. It is just another nudge towards Oriental Mystique, whose dam won the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes on heavy ground, being the rock-solid proposition in the Pinnacle. When it comes to spread betting, solid is often the way.
Haydock 2.55

Match bet: Oriental Mystique/La Lune 0-1
