If the European football championships have taught us anything, it has surely been the importance of teamwork. You can have loads of good players like Spain, and to a lesser extent England, but that means nothing without teamwork.

Going into the tournament no-one really thought Wales had any chance, most thought Italy had one of their worst teams ever, and if anyone had said that Iceland could beat England they wouldn’t have been taken very seriously at all.

Yet those teams and the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have shown how important it is to have a knowledge of how each member of the team plays and a plan for each player too. The more I think about it the more I think that teamwork is vital in horse racing too.
