Newcastle Placepot picks: David Dennett with his tips for the all-weather card

With the weather being so changeable at this time of year it seems prudent to attack the Placepot via the Tapeta at Newcastle rather than the turf.

Firebolt (1.38) is the least exposed of these and can be chanced on this handicap debut. Crystal Caves wasn’t beaten far on the Tapeta here last month and is included to provide some insurance.

Previous racecourse experience can count for Deepdale (2.08) who was doing her best work at the finish over course and distance on her debut and should get involved here. Beyond Reproach was chinned on the line at Ayr and should go well again.

Alpha Capture (2.38) has been a model of consistency and was very game when getting up on the line in a Listed race earlier this month.

The Stella Barclay representatives in the mile handicap (3.08), Balqaa and Cloch Nua, have both been running well of late and are trusted to hit the frame.

Quest For Fun (3.38) was caught out wide at Chelmsford last time and has run well here previously and Aasser wasn’t beaten far behind the now 98-rated Lethal Levi at Newmarket in July.

In the final leg Cheese The One (4.13) retains the services of 7lb claimer Owen Lewis, who produced this filly to score over course and distance last time and there could be more improvement to come.
