Nap of the day: the best horse racing tips from the day's six meetings on Thursday, June 19

Ascot

4.20: Candelari

Trawlerman looks a fine standard bearer for the older generations, having produced a mighty effort against Kyprios 12 months ago, but he now comes face to face with two four-year-olds of mouthwatering potential. Kyprios has recently been retired but it's easy to think that stablemate Illinois could step up in trip to be yet another Gold Cup winner for Aidan O'Brien. He's shown his class in a hatful of big races. Preference, however, is for a rival who has done so only once, such is the impression which Candelari has made in France. Stamina looks his strong suit but he brings significant potential too, having made his debut little more than six months ago. Richard Austen

4.35: Indalo

The lightly raced Jolly Jack Tar has potential back from another absence and it will be interesting to see how he goes in the market, but so does Indalo who looked an unlucky loser at Hamilton a fortnight ago off the same mark. Star Pupil and Bearaway, who are closely matched on latest Wolverhampton running, will find this tougher. Graham Wheldon

Leopardstown

8.00: Carthusian

This looks like a suitable opportunity for Carthusian to step up a place following an encouraging debut second at Navan. He may be given most to do by Paul Henry, a once-raced stablemate of Navan winner Scandinavia. The superbly bred Happy Pharoah is held by the selection on Navan running. Alan Sweetman

7.10: Raedwald

Night Step makes the shortlist following last month's promising Leicester return, but there are others in here open to plenty of improvement. AW debutant Moutai (second choice) and Take The A Train fall into that category, but the selection is Raedwald who is bred to relish this longer trip on his handicap debut. David Bellingham

Ripon

3.50: Pals Battalion

Trefor (second choice) won well at Doncaster 13 days ago and should give another good account, while Baldomero is respected back at 6f and Secret Guest should quickly bounce back from a low-key York run. Things haven't gone entirely smoothly for Pals Battalion since he returned to turf but he's left the distinct impression there's a bigger run in him when things pan out more favourably. He can prove himself to be ahead of the handicapper still. Paul Smith

Wetherby

7.50: Tele Red

This is very competitive for the grade. Cosmos Raj was pipped on the post in a good York handicap on Saturday and commands respect off the same mark here but the very close fourth from that race, Tele Red, raced close to the pace throughout and arguably emerged with even more credit. Useful AW performer Kalamunda competes off his 10lb lower turf mark here and is also of significant interest, while Chuzzlewit is likely to have entered a few notebooks after his recent stable debut and remains well handicapped.
