Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings
Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team
Ascot
3.45: Giavellotto
There was a great deal to like about how Giavellotto (nap) performed in the St Leger, before and after he was badly hampered at the 2f pole, and he's been on a relentless upward curve this season. The Great Voltigeur runner-up Secret State (who's not proven beyond 1m4f) is the big danger on recent form, while Lionel looked highly promising before the Irish Derby, as did Dillian before he was forced to have his 3yo campaign delayed.
Richard Austen
Dundalk
8.00: Miss Abby Jools
Having shaped well on AW bow last time, Miss Abby Jools (nap) can score for a yard that has hit form. Super Cub will be a threat if handling the surface while International Lady will appreciate getting back on polytrack.
Mark Nunan
Fontwell
2.15: Soul Icon
All of these make some appeal but it's hard to get away from Soul Icon (nap), who has made considerable progress since he switched to handicaps last autumn and won in a canter over C&D last month. Denable is effectively 12lb higher than when winning in low-grade company at Uttoxeter 17 days ago but he looked in really good nick there and may provide the main threat to the selection. Swaffham Bulbeck is next on the list.
Chris Wilson
Hexham
4.45: Storm Lorenzo
A change of fortune is due for Storm Lorenzo (nap), who was perhaps unlucky not to win at Uttoxeter before slipping up here. Abington Park is the obvious danger, though watch out for any confidence behind Gandhi Maker.
Alistair Jones
Gowran Park
5.02: Sargent Lightfoot
A winner on his chasing debut at Kilbeggan, Sargent Lightfoot (nap) deserves another shot at a handicap hurdle and can make the most of this opportunity. The veteran Hurricane Darwin looked in fine shape at Listowel and Serpolette provided reassurance with a lively effort at Navan following a lapse at Bellewstown.
Alan Sweetman
Newcastle
4.40: Twilight Secret
Finery is unlikely to hang about after making all over further at Chelmsford and one or two others might keep her honest, so this may set up nicely for Twilight Secret (nap) who came from off the pace here last week. He goes further this time but has run well over 7f.
