Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Wednesday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Doncaster

2.13: Starsky

The Dan Skelton-trained Starsky (nap) would have been a convincing winner over C&D last month but for idling late on and, with the runner-up having since gone one better, an 8lb rise may underestimate him. Moon King stayed on well for third behind the selection in that race and is feared most with today's slower ground a possible plus. C&D Grade 2 novice hurdle winner The Cob can also go well, while the unexposed Skatman is an interesting contender on this step up in trip. Wbee returns from a break with a question mark about the slow ground, but still has to be respected in his bid for a five-timer.

Leopardstown

2.55: Mahlers Dollar

Top point-to-point rider Rob James provides outstanding value for his 7lb claim, giving top-weight Mars Harper a serious chance. However, Shane Fitzgerald's 5lb is also a terrific asset, and that could make all the difference for Mahlers Dollar (nap) who should be suited by this step-up in trip. Clifton Warrior and Stumptown appeal as relatively unexposed types.
Alan Sweetman

Kelso

1.52: Sounds Russian

Just a neck separated Breaking The Ice and Overcourt when they were clear of the third here last time, and they are solid candidates today following identical 5lb rises. However, preference is for the very lightly raced Sounds Russian (nap) who won in fine style at Sedgefield last time and can defy a 10lb hike. The unexposed Overcourt is second choice.

Newbury

3.05: Stage Star

Several progressive/promising novice hurdlers line up for a race that has a rich roll of honour. Stage Star (nap) has particularly strong credentials and he is taken to follow up last month's C&D success. Lossiemouth (second choice) is greatly respected in the retained headgear, while Gringo D'aubrelle also enters the reckoning and West Balboa looks a potentially smart mare.
Steve Boow

Limerick

3.40: Womalko

The money came for Womalko (nap) when he was second at Cork and he looks well primed to go one better here on the back of such an encouraging and hugely improved display. It looks interesting Denis Hogan takes over the steering on his representative Ballyadam Destiny and the top weight is not one to be dismissed lightly, whilst Carnet De Stage will also attract a lot of the spotlight, and Bergentown is another one to note.
Seamus Howard

Southwell

7.30: Patontheback

Lincoln Gamble is interesting back at 6f but competition for the lead seems assured and the likelihood of a strong gallop will suit Patontheback (nap), who came from off the pace to win well last week at Wolverhampton. Miss Seafire can also have a say.
