Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Selections for Chelmsford, Clonmel, Dundalk, Haydock, Newcastle and more

Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Chelmsford

8.25: The Vegas Raider

Michael Bell's improving The Vegas Raider (nap) is taken to defy a 6lb penalty and follow up his recent win here. Fellow course winner Eagle One also promises to be better suited by this longer distance and is respected, while the progressive Dreambird seems sure to have a say too.
Peter Entwistle

Clonmel

5.45: Coill Na Sionnaine

A fiendishly open contest. There should not be a lot to choose between Dare To Flare and Insignia Of Rank from their meeting at Naas last month. Roscommon second Blue Shadow and Aurora Princess can have cases made for them. The one to beat though could be Coill Na Sionnaine (nap) who has climbed hugely in the ratings but ran very well at Galway when last seen and looks sure to go close with a repeat.
Justin O'Hanlon

Dundalk

5.00: Resourceful Man

Amazing Emma would be a leading player if back to her best but a chance is instead taken on Resourceful Man (nap), who has run well here previously and could find improvement for the first-time cheekpieces. Stablemate Collective Power isn't without a chance, while Tammany Hall lacks a recent run but could be on a workable mark.
Mark Boylan

Haydock

4.55: Without A Fight

Last year's winner Without A Fight (nap) now has an 11lb higher mark to deal with but he has been holding his own in Group races this season. All his rivals have more to prove on one count or another, but Living Legend could be dangerous if coming on from his belated return to action only last week. Sextant is third on the list.
Alistair Jones

Newcastle

6.35: Ace Rothstein

This can go to Michael Bell's 3yo Ace Rothstein (nap), who found plenty of progress with his easy win on his handicap/seasonal debut at Yarmouth last week and is well treated under a penalty. Second choice is Rewired, who got back on the scoresheet at Sandown last month and should make another bold bid off his revised mark. Painless Potter and Scampi have each-way claims, while another to consider is Tregony, who had an excuse at Nottingham in her bid a for a five-timer and could resume her progress.
David Moon

Salisbury

3.35: Neenee's Choice

Although his Newbury win last time came by just a nose, that was a tenacious, rallying display by Neenee's Choice (nap) which suggested he can take another step forward over today's longer trip, a notion which is greatly reinforced by his pedigree on the dam's side. He can complete the hat-trick. Zuhair, who failed in his own hat-trick bid last time, is feared most given that he, too, steps up from 1m and is another lightly raced 3yo.
Richard Austen

Sedgefield

3.25: Aptly Put

Get An Oscar went very close off a 1lb higher mark at Worcester recently but also ahead of the handicapper is Aptly Put (nap), who was a very creditable third in a Cartmel Class 2 on Monday and will be hard to beat in this grade if tough enough to repeat that level of performance on this quick reappearance.
