The pair at the foot of the weights need considering but both will find this tougher than their latest outings. Minellacelebration has a tremendous record on the Mildmay course and looks sure to run well but the unexposed Johnbb appeals most.

8.50: Refuge

This may not be as competitive as the numbers suggest and Refuge can resume winning ways back on a forecast slower surface. The form of his reappearance second looks a lot better now than it did at the time and he remains a sprinter capable of rating higher. Star Citizen shouldn't be underestimated, with Quanah and Gunnerside also on the shortlist. Handicap debutant My Thought needs a market check too.

4.40: Flindt

A few here with chances. I Don't Get It could be hard to peg back from the front, while the long absent Elusive Rebeldom is very intriguing. Dollar Value ran a big race at Punchestown after an absence, and a market check is advisable with handicap bewcomer General Moriviere. However, Flindt sets a very good standard here after his second in a very competitive Punchestown handicap and will be hard to beat.

2.30: Notre Belle Bete

It's hard to oppose Notre Belle Bete who has performed with credit in Listed class on his first two starts and should be hard to beat dropping down into a maiden here. Prairie Dancer showed plenty of promise as a juvenile and should come on for his reappearance and Ebeneezer Perry looks a nice prospect for this season.

The winner of this often progresses to better things. Annandale looks a typically tenacious Johnston handicapper and he was never stronger than through the line when winning over a furlong shorter at Nottingham. Oceanline and Otyrar are both ready for today's extra yardage and are feared in that order.

3.50: Jean Baptiste

There shouldn't be much between the reopposing Ahdab and Turntable after their recent meeting at Yarmouth and both are solid candidates for this, but preference is for Jean Baptiste who ran a fine race in the Thirsk Hunt Cup last time and whose stable has been going well lately.

3.40: Shawaamekh

C&D winner Shawaamekh came from a difficult position to finish a close fourth at Chester on last week's reappearance and can capitalise on an attractive mark. The consistent Trinity Lake, also trained by Declan Carroll, holds solid claims but the main danger may come from the 9yo Get Knotted, a well-handicapped three-time C&D winner who could leave last month's reappearance well behind. Boardman is ahead of the handicapper under a 5lb penalty for last Saturday's romp and isn't necessarily dependent on the heavy ground that prevailed at Haydock, while 4yo fillies Highfield Princess and Red Poppy are others to consider.
