Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Ascot

4.45: Saga

The third in the Britannia overcame a 5lb rise to win a warm three-year-old handicap at the Newmarket July festival so there's reason to think that Saga could still be on a good mark despite being put up 8lb, particularly if Benoit de la Sayette's claim is taken into account. Fellow three-year-old Atrium was well adrift of the selection in the Britannia but has a good overall course record and is feared most ahead of Royal Hunt Cup third Tempus.
Andrew Sheret

Gowran Park

5.45: Complete Fiction

This wouldn't appear to have the same depth as the first division. Expect Heer At Dawn and Philly's Hope to be in the mix again but preference is for Complete Fiction who did well from the rear at Leopardstown last time and can be rewarded for his consistency here.
Phill Anderson

Lingfield

5.08: Shut Up And Dance

Top of the list is Shut Up And Dance, who made it 3-6 in handicaps with her emphatic front-running win at Wolverhampton and is open to more progress on this drop back in trip. Second choice is the lightly raced five-year-old Wannabe Betsy, who returned from a lengthy absence with a course-and-distance win on her stable debut last month. Be Fair should be in the mix again, while others who need a close look are the handicaps newcomers Arcadian Friend and Queen Of Change.
David Moon

Newcastle

4.32: Sea King

Sir Mark Prescott doesn't make Classic entries for the fun of it and the chances are that his St Leger outsider Sea King has plenty more to offer. After a very comfortable handicap debut success, it was probably the soft ground that found him out at Haydock. Thundering is coming along very nicely and, having done well to win here a month ago, he's the danger.
Alistair Jones

Newmarket

1.57: Lalania

The first two from last year renew rivalry and although Divine Magic won with more in hand than the margin would suggest at Leicester last time, she faces a stiff task in trying to reverse last-year's length defeat by Lalania on 9lb worse terms. The selection showed her wellbeing when also bouncing back to winning form at Yarmouth ten days ago. A market check is crucial regarding the chances of the unexposed Good American on her return to action.
David Bellingham

Salisbury

7.30: Prophecy

The most interesting runner is Prophecy, who returned from a long absence with a very promising run at Ffos Las this month. He could plausibly have won that race with better luck in the closing stages and there's every chance he'll be seen to even better effect on this stiffer track and with that outing under his belt. Secret Handsheikh was placed off today's mark over 5f last time and will be suited by today's return to 6f. Michaels Choice, a course-and-distance winner in May, sports new headgear and is next on the list.
Chris Wilson

York

2.40: Ghathanfar

Having impressed here on July 8 on the sole previous occasion he wore cheekpieces, Ghathanfar earns the vote with the headgear reapplied. His last-time-out defeat at Pontefract can be excused due to a slow start and a wide trip. A low draw wrecked Silver Samurai's bid for a hat-trick in the Wokingham and he's second choice, ahead of last year's winner Venturous who showed promising signs the last twice. Gale Force Maya and Atomic Lady could also run well.
