Round The Buoy has been improving massively in his last two starts but will need to have more to come to defy his new mark. Siberian Star makes appeal as one who should be in the thick of things off his lower hurdles rating, having won readily over fences here in December. He gets the nod, although Lessofdnegativity, Bronson In Blue and Pale Blue Dot are respected. Any market support for Pickamix would be interesting.

1.00: Ecossais

Len Brennan won well at Plumpton last week on his return from a two-month break and has a good chance provided this race doesn't come too soon. A highly tempting alternative is Ecossais, who won this race last year, remains unbeaten at Southwell and looks very nicely weighted. Sam Barton and Hard To Forget are others to consider.

First-time cheekpieces did the trick for Motown Lake at Uttoxeter last month and this unexposed six=year-old can follow up in the retained headgear. The Very Thing benefited from a first-time visor when winning at Catterick last time and is respected, but perhaps the chief threat will come from Eveque now back on testing ground. The Lion Dancer and Magic Of Milan could also run well.

5.30: Abduction

The most striking contender is Abduction, who cashed in on a reduced mark with a strong-finishing win at Lingfield last month and is only 2lb higher here in his bid to make it 2-2 for Charlie Wallis. Some Nightmare had a highly productive time last year and he's feared most back from a short break, though Kodi Gold has finished runner-up in his last three starts and is respected on his stable debut. Another who could be in the mix is the well-handicapped Water Of Leith, who wasn't beaten far at Southwell last week.
