Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's five meetings
Thursday fancies from Newcastle, Carlisle, Ffos Las, Chelmsford and Navan
Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team
Carlisle
4.55: Ben Asker
Cases can be made for several of these but the addition of cheekpieces seems to have made a big difference for Ben Asker, who is 2-2 for his new stable since returned to the Flat last month and may still have further improvement to come. He gets the vote ahead of Wrath Of Hector, who is probably still on a workable turf mark. Albeseeingyer, Monhammer and Time To Rumble also make the shortlist.
Chris Wilson
Chelmsford
2.45: Tiger Crusade
Having run so well since joining Andrew Balding and with a record of 4-7 on the AW, including a C&D win, Red Mirage seems likely to run another big race, but preference is for Tiger Crusade who shaped as though he would appreciate the return to this trip last time and is back off his last winning mark. Rhythm Master (1-1 on the AW) and the unexposed Royal Parade are others to consider.
David Bellingham
Ffos Las
2.53: Hellavaheart
Preference is for the 3yo Hellavaheart, who got off the mark with his brave win at Chepstow in June and resumed his progress with a good front-running second over C&D last time. The main threat could come from Typewritten, who has had a few clashes with the selection this summer and was just behind her old rival here two weeks ago. Al Gaiya had a near miss on AW last Wednesday and is a big player if she can repeat that form, while others to consider are Point Louise and Good Impression.
David Moon
Navan
5.15: Britzka
A few have chances but Britzka is taken to get off the mark back on the level having been in career best form over hurdles in recent starts. Swelltime remains on a good mark after hitting the crossbar last time and Wish Me hinted at a return to form latest.
Phill Anderson
Newcastle
8.15: Vince Lombardi
Aberama Gold (second choice) is greatly respected back at 6f off a handy mark, while the resurgent True Mason, Badri, Mojomaker and Loves Me Likearock all have something to recommend them. None appeals more than Vince Lombardi though. He has long appealed as being ahead of his mark and the drop back to 6f saw him trounce his rivals at Carlisle last week. He has a penalty to shoulder in a better race but he is a strong traveller whose best days remain ahead of him.
