Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's eight meetings

Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Ayr

6.53: Riot

Regular front-runners Poet's Magic (second choice) and Ventura Rascal may take each other on for the lead, but they are solid in other respects and look stronger options than most of their rivals. That is except for Riot, who looks interesting off a handy mark on his debut for David O'Meara and may well deliver a powerful late challenge off a likely good pace. The selection is useful on his day and ran well in a handicap at Royal Ascot last year.
Steve Boow

Brighton

3.20: Caramelised

Pretty good cases can be made for most of these but top of the list is Caramelised, who got his career back on track with a stylish win at Bath in June and is not yet fully exposed. Percy Jones drops in grade after holding his own in a valuable contest at Haydock last month and will be dangerous if coping with today's much faster ground. Handicap debutant Postwick is next on the list.
Chris Wilson

Doncaster

8.40: Good Birthday

The John Smith's Cup won by Anmaat is working out well and the form could get another boost courtesy of Good Birthday, who ran a fine race considering he was drawn in stall 23. He dropped out only late on and is well worth another chance back at this venue (2-2 over this C&D) from a much more favourable stall. Jean Baptiste has been in fine form and should go well, as should Matchless, who is also unbeaten in two starts at Doncaster.

Leopardstown

5.45: Entropy

Question marks against most of these but Entropy looked a nice handicap prospect earlier in the campaign and is worth another chance after disappointing over C&D last time. The top weight Tauran Shaman, very capable on his day, could be his biggest danger.
Mark Nunan

Nottingham

4.00: Bibulous

Returning to the scene of his best effort to date, Hiya Maite is tempting despite a disappointing run last time, but this looks a good opportunity for Bibulous to get off the mark for the season. He was unlucky not to go close over C&D last month and this race looks no stronger. Recent Ayr winner Little Muddy and the talented maiden Libertus complete the shortlist.
Richard O'Brien

Sandown

8.18: Fulfilled

Three-year-olds have won the last four renewals of this race and Fulfilled can extend their dominance. A 3lb rise looks a small price to pay for the way he won at Newmarket. A resurgent Island Bandit may prove most troublesome, along with the very solid Crystal Casque.
Alistair Jones

Sligo

5.30: Dartington

It's very hard to get away from Dartington. Gordon Elliot's charge sets a good standard with a rating of 124 after wins at Wexford and Tramore, and a recent spin on the Flat should have him spot-on. Desert Friend and Weddell Sea have the ability to play a part but they both need to improve on recent showings to get involved. Gekkota is interesting after an impressive Limerick win last time.
Brian Dowling

Yarmouth

4.40: Habanero Star

Shyjack is going to pop up in one of these at some point and he can go well, while Anglo Saxson rewarded strong market support here last week. None appeals more than Habanero Star though and Gay Kelleway's mare can register her third C&D win of the season.
Paul Smith
