There was drama in the 2m3½f novice handicap chase at Plumpton when Mr Fitzroy was caught on the line by 7-4 market leader City Supreme after more than £14,000 had been matched at 1.01 in running on Betfair.

The 9-2 chance had made most the running and appeared to have beaten off the favourite after a fluent leap at the last. However, he tied up badly near the line and was caught by the rallying winner, who had touched a high of 120.

Craiganboy landed a gamble in the 2m2f novice handicap chase at Ayr after being matched for £3 at a high of 800. The 14-1 winner had been backed from an opening 25-1 on course and denied Virnon and Las Tunas, who hit lows of 1.33 and 1.35.
