Lynam's Hazard could have a trouble-free trip to the promised land

Trainer: Michael Halford
6th, 7f two-year-old maiden, Curragh, October 22
An interesting opening maiden at this extra Curragh meeting which brought the curtain down on racing at headquarters for 2019, and a few of these could have gone in this week, including a couple of the more obvious Ballydoyle newcomers. However, there was a lot to like about this Aga Khan-owned debutant too.

An imposing chestnut, he was a bit keen going to the start and broke sluggishly out of the stalls. He made up the lost ground quickly enough but was a bit green when push came to shove. It was only inside the final furlong that he began to pick up, hitting the line hard under hands and heels. He has a long, raking stride and would probably prefer better ground, and even at this stage he looks like he would prefer a mile. He might be one to put away for next year, but it would not be a surprise to see him turn up for a Dundalk maiden before the end of the year. He looks good enough to win one.

Eddie Lynam
4th, 5f two-year-old maiden, Navan, October 23
This Slade Power newcomer ran possibly the most eyecatching race of the week and looks to be a colt of some promise.

He blew the start and was completely clueless early in the contest, becoming detached for the first couple of furlongs, but he gradually warmed to his task and made up considerable ground despite not enjoying the clearest of runs. His effort did flatten out a little close home, but overall it was a debut which displayed quite a bit of ability.
