Leicester Placepot picks: Tom Segal has three bankers in his perm
Sometimes small fields can make life tricky for Placepot punters but that might not be the case at Leicester where there look to be several races in which one horse stands out and a £100,000 minimum pool is guaranteed.
Perseus Way didn't jump with that much fluency on his hurdles debut but he still ran to a high level at Cheltenham and he should win the juvenile hurdle (12.40) with a bit to spare.
Similarly, Marble Sands showed a much better level of form than any of his opposition when second in the EBF Final last season. He has a penalty to overcome for his easy win at Hereford last month but should still have no trouble winning the novice hurdle (2.10).
The final banker is Scarlet Ruby in the novices' handicap hurdle (1.10) after her easy win over course and distance last time. It wasn't a great race she won but this isn't much better and she gets a lot of weight.
The most interesting contest is the race for veterans (3.10) because a case can be made for all four runners.
Magic Dancer is the obvious one after his win at Cheltenham last time but his worst recent run came at this track and he has never won off a mark this high.
Consequently, it could be worth sticking in Le Patriote, who ran well before not staying 3m1f on his comeback run and Gortroe Joe, who looked in good form at Kempton.
The handicap chase (1.40) looks a match between Unit Sixtyfour and Ben Buie and choosing between the two is not easy. Both have to go in, especially as the other two in the race are likely to struggle.
Finally, it's safest to put a couple in for the handicap hurdle (2.40). Dr T J Eckleburg was impressive at Taunton last season and should have more improvement in him, while At A Pinch remains well treated on her Flat form and she goes well fresh.
