Last year's winner could prove a value pick on a day for jollies at Navan
Given the electric start Gordon Elliott has had to the jumps season proper, it would be a shock if Apple's Jade didn't run out anything other than a comprehensive winner of the Grade 2 Lismullen Hurdle (1.05), a race she has won for the last two years.
The Grade 2 Fortria Chase (2.10) is a trickier race to call. Arkle winner Duc Des Genievres has the potential to improve well past his four rivals, while fellow second-season chasers A Plus Tard and Hardline could also take a big leap forward.
However, Ballyoisin sets a fairly decent standard for the younger brigade to aim at and it's worth remembering that he sauntered to a wide-margin success in this race as an odds-on favourite 12 months ago.
Ballyoisin hasn't been at his best over hurdles of late but, back over fences and at a track he does well at, he could be worth siding with at the prices.
Bay Ambition looked a progressive mare when winning second time up for Gavin Cromwell at Downpatrick and she should take plenty of stopping in the opening navanracecourse.ie Handicap Hurdle (12.05), while Abacadabras should be tough to beat in the following For Auction Novice Hurdle (12.35).
Andy Dufresne is a talented young horse for Elliott and he should make an immediate impact over hurdles in the P.S. Supplies Doors & Floors Maiden Hurdle (1.35) but, just in case he fluffs his lines, Eden Flight is worth including as a saver.
The Hotel Park St Johann Tirol Austria Handicap Hurdle (2.45) looks tricky but Quamino, Winner Takes Itall and Father Ailbe appeal in that order.
