It is the start of a great five days at Goodwood and, as usual, there will be any number of hard-luck stories on the round course.

The draw will be a huge factor in races over seven furlongs and a mile, but I never worry too much about it in the races over further and, in a race that has often gone to the classiest horse at the top of the weights, I certainly wouldn’t be put off by Revolutionist’s draw in stall 13 in the opening Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap (2.00).

He has outstanding claims on his close third in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot last month when he was drawn on the outside and could never really get cover. Considering that, he did well to stay on and the icing on the cake is James McDonald being back on board.
