Jepeck has huge chance of repeating last year's victory for in-form stable

It’s 12 months since Jepeck ploughed through the mud to win this race off a mark of 132 and the Anthony Honeyball-trained gelding has a huge chance of repeating the feat this year.

Jepeck has yet to show the same form in four outings since, but he wasn’t disgraced when fourth in hot contests at Ascot and Carlisle on his final two starts last season. Those efforts came off marks of 139 and 138 and he is well handicapped having dropped back to 132.

He has been pulled up on both starts this year, including in a qualifier for this race over course and distance in November. But the good ground wouldn’t have been ideal that day and his latest effort on heavy going at Chepstow last month can probably be ignored. He jumped badly right-handed on that left-handed circuit and is definitely better at this clockwise track.

Honeyball has two winners from his last eight runs and the in-form trainer fits cheekpieces and a tongue-strap. He is 1-2 with runners wearing cheekpieces for the first time since the start of last year and also 5-13 with those sporting a first-time tongue-strap in the same period.
