Iron Man Callan can earn his stripes on General

Idyllic Wind
11.15 Happy Valley

If both races jump on time then Happy Valley's Fenwick Handicap at 2.15 should finish just as the RSA Chase reaches its climax.

A decision to focus firmly on Cheltenham removes the ticklish issue of whether RUK cuts to split-screen action, but let's hope General Iron can pull rank in today's HK feature.

A fierce gallop is the key to bringing the best out of this gelding and, with recent course winner Moment Of Power heading a posse of perennial pace pressers, he should have the race run to suit him perfectly.

General Iron gets a pass for his latest run behind Moment Of Power – where a slow start proved punitive – but his previous two runs and a perfect draw make him good each way value at around 8-1 with Neil 'Iron Man' Callan aboard.

Most of the other Valley handicaps are almost as tough as anything Cheltenham has to offer but Royale Elegance and Peace Combination can go well in the 11.45 and 12.15 respectively.

The speedy Nice Fandango and consistent Sir Redalot hold sound claims in the 1.15 and 1.45, but Wednesday's second recommendation is Idyllic Wind in the opener at 11.15.

Young Dreamer proved just too strong for this gelding here last month and, given that the winner races for the racing club I work for, it would go down well enough to see him follow up.

However, Idyllic Wind has a 5lb pull and a better draw this time. In a very tightly-knit sprint, those two factors might just the scales in his favour.
