Although 15-8 favourite and entitled to win what looked a weak race, Friary Gold did well to win so emphatically at Killarney last Tuesday, as he was the first to go after a front-runner who did not hang about, and is fancied to follow up off the same mark in the 2m½f handicap chase (4.30) at Roscommon.

The eight-year-old has solid form over further and Jonathan Moore is not afraid to make plenty of use of him. The fitting of a hood and a tongue-strap seems to have worked and he strikes me as the type who could run up a sequence in these low-grade handicaps. This looks another shrewd piece of placing by Gavin Cromwell.
