Rekindling was bought to win the Melbourne Cup and he looks capable of a very big run for second-season trainer Joseph O'Brien.

The three-year-old runs in the colours of five-time Melbourne Cup-winning owner Lloyd Williams and has sparkled since stepping up to 1m6f this summer. He won the Curragh Cup, finished second to Order Of St George and was a close-up fourth in the St Leger.

European three-year-olds don't often make the long trip down under for the Cup but Aidan O'Brien saddled Mahler to finish third in 2007 and his son's first runner in the Flemington feature looks at least as classy as Mahler.
