Hong Kong's formidable figure can fire in double reminder of his talent

John Moore is taking every opportunity available to end his Hong Kong career in a blaze of glory, so prime chances such as Happy Warrior and Stronger at Happy Valley today are a godsend to the trainer.
Moore faces compulsory retirement on reaching 70 years under local Jockey Club rules, but he is still a formidable figure in the trainers’ ranks. His capacity for uncovering talented imports, as well as the owners to pay for them, is unrivalled.
A good example is Stronger, who looks an attractive bet in the Class Two 6f sprint handicap (2.50), in which his light weight and handy inside draw (six) will give him as edge over rivals Big Party and Tornado Twist.
Stronger was trained by Peter and Paul Snowden in Australia and made an impressive start to his career with three wins from seven starts as a juvenile, which included a Group 3 victory on the Gold Coast.
All nine races on the Happy Valley card
Still a colt — which is unusual in Hong Kong as most imports are gelded — Stronger is a flashy chestnut and will be easy to spot in running.
On his only Hong Kong start, he finished a promising second in a 5f sprint on the straight course at Sha Tin. With Matthew Chadwick in the saddle, he will be hard to beat.
There is a big push for Big Party, particularly with the booking of Joao Moreira, but the gelding can be erratic in his races, and this track will expose any quirks. Tornado Twist, with Blake Shinn aboard, is likely to be finishing well.
Moore and Chadwick also combine with Happy Warrior, whose remarkable consistency has proven costly over the last three seasons. His record stands at two from 20, but also features five seconds, which has seen him creep up the handicap.
Despite that, his light weight will enable him to sit handy and he can go very close in this Class Three 6f handicap (12.15), with rivals Fearless Fire and Ballistic King also both worthy of consideration.
Trainer Jimmy Ting has not been firing in the winners with the same regularity as last season, but Amazing Star, with Zac Purton in the saddle, is one to put him back in the spotlight in the Class Three 6f handicap (2.15).
