Luck has deserted jockey Chad Schofield, who has been forced to give up four decent rides on Wednesday's eight-race card at Happy Valley after being stood down because he is suffering from a fever.
The main beneficiary is Blake Shinn, who comes in for two of the spare rides, the most notable of which is the David Hayes-trained Ginson, an Australian import primed to make a winning local debut in the Class 3 sprint handicap (11.15), over 5f.
Schofield, sitting on three winners with a quarter of the season gone, has said he will return to Australia next month and it appeared Ginson, whom he has ridden regularly in trials and track work, might have been the one to give him a farewell present.
Ginson won once in Australia, where arguably his best performance was when second in the Blue Diamond Prelude, a key juvenile race in Melbourne. He was also later placed in a Group 3 at three.
It's a tall order to expect a first-up win at Happy Valley but the four-year-old should prove capable of making an impact in this grade, particularly with the benefit of a trial already at the city track in September. The Frankie Lor-trained We The South, with Joao Moreira aboard, looks the danger.
Moreira, nine wins behind Zac Purton in the jockeys' championship, has a string of winning chances, with Amazing Boy, in the Class 5 1m½f handicap (12.15), appearing the best of them.
The Michael Chang-trained Amazing Boy is 0-9 but this is his fourth start in the lowest grade and he has dropped to a competitive rating of 33.
With Moreira booked for the first time, this is his big day. All Best Friends and Run The Table are the ones for combinations.
Trainer John Size's season continues to gather momentum and he looks set to dominate the finale, the Class 2 6f sprint handicap (2.50), in which he has three solid chances.
Drops Of God, with Moreira in the saddle, is preferred to stablemates Scores Of Fun (Purton) and Sight Success (Vagner Borges), in that order.
Drops Of God, starting from stall four, has a much better draw than when a respectable fourth over course and distance on his last outing, which is the clincher in a tough race.
