Hong Kong racing tips: Jim McGrath with three fancies on Sunday's Sha Tin card

Super Power Man
8.05 Sha Tin

Thinkin’ Big
9.45 Sha Tin

Christophe Soumillon, who suffered heavy financial losses as a result of testing positive for Covid, will be out to make up for lost time with a full book of ten rides at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Soumillon missed two winners at the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland and was then forced to sit on the sidelines to watch his intended ride Normcore take the Hong Kong Cup at last week’s big international meeting.
The Belgian star has reportedly taken a philosophical approach to the costly episode but you can expect a fiercely determined performance in the saddle on his first day back.
He has a number of solid chances and Speed Fay Fay, in the Class 4 7f handicap (7.35), makes particular appeal. The four-year-old won over course and distance two starts back and still looks well handicapped, although he must cope with a wide draw (stall 11).
The Benno Yung-trained four-year-old was also drawn wide when winning two starts ago, and next time came storming home from back in the field to fail by only a neck. Curiously, on his last start he drew a favourable gate but did not capitalise on it. However, connections may have stumbled on the best way to ride him.
This is a tricky race, with several in contention. Joao Moreira’s mount Fortune Master, drawn in stall one, looks dangerous, as does the Jimmy Ting-trained Winning Steed.
There are two dirt races on the card and Soumillon again looks the one to beat when partnering Super Power Man in the second of them, the Class 3 6f handicap (8.05).
The Manfred Man-trained Super Power Man has not run since May but looked in great shape winning a 6f barrier trial on the Sha Tin all-weather three weeks ago.
He is well up to winning this on his first run back, although the ultra-consistent Super Alliances must be respected.
Save a little for Thinkin’ Big in the finale, the Class 2 7f handicap (9.45), as the red-hot Douglas Whyte/Jerry Chau partnership can strike again. This beaten favourite in the 2018 Victoria Derby at Flemington has finally settled in to the Hong Kong regime and this is ready-made for him.
Bets can be placed into Hong Kong pools with the Tote, Coral and Ladbrokes. The first race at Sha Tin on Sunday is at 5am
