Hong Kong racing tips: Jim McGrath has three Sunday selections at Happy Valley

Lucky Sweynesse
8.05 Sha Tin
2pts win

We Are Hero
9.10 Sha Tin
2pts win

Straight Arron
9.45 Sha Tin
2pts win

Lucky Sweynesse can gain minor compensation for his sixth in the Hong Kong Sprint by taking the Group 3 7f handicap (8.05), the feature on a bumper 11-race card at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Wellington was a worthy and classy winner of that Group 1 contest three weeks ago, but Lucky Sweynesse had no chance of making a race of it as he sat trapped in a pocket on the inside and could never get a crack at them in the straight.

Whether he would have toppled Wellington with a clear run is not certain, but he would have finished much closer than the two-and-a-half-length margin he was beaten. He is joint-topweight here, but has the necessary class to win.

Lucky Sweynesse has won seven of his 11 starts, including over course and distance, and Zac Purton should be happy drawn wider in stall six following the frustrations of being blocked on the inside last time.

Blaze Warrior registered his sixth win when coming from well back in a 7f handicap for Ryan Moore last time and looks dangerous. He has Karis Teetan up and will be in receipt of 17lb from Lucky Sweynesse and Beauty Joy, another danger.

Lucky Sweynesse’s trainer Manfred Man also has an excellent chance of winning the 5f handicap (9.10) with We Are Hero, whose draw in stall 13 on the stands' rail is a big advantage.

It was no surprise to see the five-year-old promoted a grade and raised 12lb in the ratings after his easy course-and-distance win last time. Everything is in his favour to make it two on the trot, with Purton’s mount Superb Boy the big danger.

David Hayes takes the wraps off another high-priced import from Australia when he saddles the exciting Straight Arron for his Hong Kong debut in the 7f handicap (9.45). The four-year-old won for Chris Waller on metro tracks in Melbourne and Sydney, including a Group 3 at Randwick on heavy ground.

He has trialled adequately for his debut and will have the John Size-trained Red Lion as the one to beat.
