There is a choice of two Placepots to play into on Tuesday and, whichever way you choose, you will run into a race full of unraced two-year-olds. The balance to be struck is between two juvenile races at Newcastle versus three extra older-horse maidens at Kempton.

As handicaps generally offer more opportunities for Placepot punters, Newcastle still gets the nod on balance. The added benefit is that those still involved approaching the last leg can more easily negotiate a guaranteed profit with place lays. It is also worth noting that the early handicaps are of higher quality.

The opening mile race is a 0-85 and the joint-lowest in terms of ratings bands. It contains a relative Placepot dream in Star Shield, who held his form admirably in strong handicaps in the second half of 2019 and ran a creditable race when sixth, beaten just over a length, here in November.

Race two is the feature, a 0-105 again over a mile. Sir Busker's career-best form on switching to Kempton in the autumn gives him plenty of appeal, as does the booking of Ben Curtis as a statement of intent. He is backed up by the Richard Fahey-trained , who has a lot in his favour.

The real difficulty comes in picking the two-year-olds. Placepot bettors should always be looking at the market, normally for ways in which to bet against it giving they are playing directly against others' money in the pool. This is a relatively rare occasion when following the money is likely to play a part.

That Lockdown is bred like he is (loads of speedy two-year-olds in his pedigree) advertises his claims and Hugo Palmer tends to do well with his two-year-old runners at the track. He can be backed up with Strike Red, whose pedigree is almost as speedy, while early market vibes are used to separate Significantly and Fools Rush In, in favour of the former.

In the final leg, save money and try a banker, knowing that trading is an option. Inclination is to go with Digital, who was an early foal and is a first-ever runner for his sire Kodi Bear and has all-weather aptitude on the dam's side of his pedigree.
