Here is how to get through Kempton's Placepot on Wednesday

With a number of novice contests on the Yarmouth card, the first turf meeting since the resumption of racing, the best option for Placepot punters is to stick to the all-weather at Kempton.

Only 3lb separates top and bottomweight in the first leg, a 0-75 5f handicap (1.00), but the two who stand out are Never Dark and Newyorkstateofmind.

Never Dark has not finished outside the first three in four outings so he is perfect Placepot material, while Newyorkstateofmind won well when last seen on the track and may improve for a recent gelding operation.

All-weather specialists Spirited Guest and Griggy are trusted in the second leg, a 0-78 handicap (1.35), while John Gosden's once-raced Sun Bear looks banker material in the following 1m2f fillies' novice event (2.10).

The Group 3 Classic Trial (2.45) looks wide open away from the William Haggas-trained Born With Pride, who could become the new Oaks favourite if she wins, but Highland Chief is also included in an attempt to double up.

Gary Moore's Gossiping will be a short-priced favourite in leg five (3.20), but he is an in-and-out sort and I'm more than happy to avoid him and bank on Balding's Oloroso, who ran well here when last seen.

The concluding Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes (3.55) is a tough race to assess. James Fanshawe's improving Audarya fits the bill, while the classy Billesdon Brook will pick up the pieces and provide a solid look to the perm.
