Haydock Placepot tips: Keith Melrose with a Sunday Series perm

The Musselburgh Placepot for the first Sunday Series card drew a bumper pool of £150,000 and Haydock's should do a similar trade. A big pool of mostly handicaps promises to create a lot of dead money.

There is plenty of pace high in the opening sprint, which sets up well for winning machine Under Curfew. Good Luck Fox shaped well from a poor draw at Musselburgh and is better positioned this time.

Danzan also shaped well at Musselburgh and will be more at home over 6f now in leg two. The big field also promises to suit Call Me Ginger, who can race freely.

The maiden might be a strange race to look for a banker. However, considering his soft-ground-friendly pedigree and trainer William Haggas's tendency to hunt out valuable races for his horses, Vintage Choice is an obvious choice.

Bastogne is the solid option in the nursery, given his recent effort at Goodwood. Miss Calculation's heavy-ground debut win is strong currency and she has not been unduly punished by the handicapper.

The mile handicap (5.45) has suffered the most casualties at the time of writing and begs a banker. Deep Sigh is the natural choice, as she looks to have got off lightly for her win over a progressive rival on heavy ground last time.

In the final leg, take sole three-year-old Fairmac and back him up with Mascat, who has excuses on his last two starts and showed some of his best form in the mud last backend.
