Haydock Placepot picks: Tom Segal with his perm for the Sunday Series card
With over 80 horses in the Haydock Placepot there is a chance that any perm could get out of hand. However, some of the races might not be quite as competitive as they look at first glance and Primo's Comet is worth banking on in the Sky Bet Sunday Apprentice Training Series Handicap (4.10).
The six-year-old was impressive at Musselburgh last time and has run well on his two goes at this track.
Smeaton's Light hasn't quite lived up to his potential of late, but he remains well treated and should be included in the following sprint handicap (4.35) along with Troubador, who has dropped to a good mark.
The juvenile newcomers' maiden (5.00) obviously involves some guesswork, but the best bred horse is undoubtedly Al Barez. His dam won the Irish 1,000 Guineas and he cost a lot of money at the breeze-up sales, so he can obviously run too.
Harry Eustace has his team in good form and his Flaming Lord looks to be on a fair mark in the nursery (5.30). I would include Sir Min in the same race as he ran well in a similar contest at Pontefract last time and should appreciate the extra furlong.
Libby Ami did not appear to quite get home last time and will appreciate the drop back to a mile in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Fillies' Handicap (6.00). She can be relied on to hit the frame off a good mark.
The last race (6.25) could be the hardest leg to get through. Consequently, it is worth including a couple, and the in-form pair of Miramichi and Silver Gunn would appear to have as a good a chance as any.
