Hawk can swoop to give Mullins recompense

Mostly big fields and some very trappy handicaps are the order of the day as the Galway marathon enters the penultimate lap. As the old saying might have went, you would want to have your money made before now, but hopefully there are a couple that can be found today to keep collective heads above water.

The feature is the Grade B Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle (3.15) which has attracted one short of a maximum field. Brian Ellison's top-weight Totalize, the hat-trick seeking Westerner Lady and last week's impressive Ballinrobe scorer Little Haarth will be among the better fancied ones for this race, but it may well be worth siding with the Tom Mullins-trained Some Hawk. This son of Presenting is having his third run back after two years on the sidelines, and his last effort at Roscommon when finishing a very creditable third in the handicap hurdle won by Plain Talking on ground a bit softer than ideal looks an ideal preparation for this sort of race. With a bit more likely to come and the ground drying out he looks well capable of turning the tables with Plain Talking and Mine Now, despite the former showing the form she is in by winning here earlier in the week, and it could be nice recompense for trainer Tom Mullins after the narrow defeat of Princely Conn in Thursday's Galway Hurdle.
