Handsome Sam stings in-running backers at Taunton

Credit: Patrick McCann

Handsome Sam set Betfair's in-running punters a poser when going well clear in the 2m7f novice handicap chase at Taunton, but he couldn't keep up the gallop and faded to fourth having hit 1.2. Bells Of Ailsworth stayed on strongly to score at 15-2 after touching a high of 26.

If The Cap Fits defied a big drift to land the bumper. The 5-2 favourite had opened at 6-4 and victory looked unlikely when Or De Vassy kicked clear in front, but the market leader came home strongly to deny those who had forced the runner-up to as short as 1.21.

Flow With Eve touched 1.59 to land a gamble when tanking into the lead on the home turn in the 2m3f handicap hurdle, but couldn't hold 7-2 favourite Master Burbidge, who proved too strong in the straight.
