This evening's Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap provides a daunting test for punters, but it would be cowardly to shy away from the challenge of this fascinating handicap.

While there has been no British-trained winner since the Charlie Nelson-trained Majestic Nurse in 1979, top-weight Baraweez, one of three in the field for Brian Ellison, was third in the event in 2014 and second last season. In both years, his participation served as a prelude to a 7f victory later in the week. With Daniel Redmond claiming a useful 7lb, he could make a bold bid to enhance his record at the track, but his draw in stall 17 is a potential negative.

Sea Wolf is an intriguing runner for Ger Lyons who is also represented by the 2013 winner Brendan Brackan. Formerly trained by Michael Dods, Sea Wolf has done much of his racing over 7f and started for Lyons over that trip at the Curragh last month. He won in terrific style, and gave the impression he would stay further. Yet he could not be guaranteed to get home in a race usually run at a very strong gallop, probably a more significant concern than an 11lb rise in the ratings.
