If it were a normal Betfred November Handicap (3.35) at Doncaster, Erik The Red probably wouldn't be running for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, he isn't at his best on soft ground and, secondly, he is unproven at a mile and a half, so the usual slog in the November mud certainly wouldn't have suited him. However, with the ground said to be fast, Erik The Red looks worth backing after a series of good runs off higher marks in some of the best handicaps of the season.

Last time he caught the eye when finishing well into seventh in the Cambridgeshire and would probably have finished closer if he had followed the right horses, instead of being stuck in the middle of the track. Before that he had run really well - again racing away from the principals - at York.
