Graeme Rodway's banker at Newmarket on Saturday
Saffron Beach
2.55 Newmarket
Jane Chapple-Hyam will probably have had this race in mind for Saffron Beach since she finished second in the 1,000 Guineas over course and distance in May and the soft ground has come in her favour. She might be capable of upsetting Mother Earth and Snow Lantern.
Saffron Beach simply loves the Rowley Mile and her form figures at the track read an impressive 1122. Her two defeats were on ground that was probably faster than ideal and her best performance last season came when she won the Oh So Sharp on soft going in October.
The selection warmed up for this with an impressive victory over subsequent Group 3 winner Waliyak in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown and the third Ville De Grace has also won since.
That form is evidently strong and Saffron Beach can land a first Group 1 victory here.
