Graeme Rodway is attempting to scoop the Placepot dividend at Thirsk

Play it safe in the opening two races at Thirsk. Stick with the experienced pair Alghada and Imperial Butterfly in the first leg (12.15). The fact they have run will get them so far against the newcomers.

Ginger Max will be a short-priced favourite for the second leg (12.45) and can’t be ignored.

I fancy my chances of getting a result in the third leg (1.15). Hajjam is well handicapped and might have more to offer on his second outing since joining Liam Bailey’s stable. Parys Mountain will be a similarly big price, but he is now 2lb lower than when last successful at Chester in September and goes on any ground. Trainer Tim Easterby’s team are going well too.

Our Dave ran well at the course last week and merits inclusion with Garnock Valley in leg four (1.50), while Amplification could give a good account for Michael Dods in the 2.20. The trainer has plenty of winners at Thirsk. Casement is worth a flyer at a bigger price in that too.

Finally, go with consistent pair Don’t Be Surprised and Be Bold in the last (2.50).
