Gosden's record in historic handicap points to 25-1 Dommersen

Three-year-olds have to be extremely good to even get a run in the Betfred Cambridgeshire these days but when the do they invariably run well as the weight for age system seems to favour them at this stage of the season.

Last year the winner was from that age category, as was the first home on the other side of the track, this year’s Hunt Cup winner Portage. To show how good the younger generation have to be to get in the race, two of the other three-year-olds were the Betfred Mile winner Franklin D and the Prince Of Wales’s hero My Dream Boat. Four of the last ten winners of the race have been aged 3 and anyone backing any horse at this stage for the Cambridgeshire would do well to start with that age group.

Banksea for Luca Cumani is the obvious place to start after his eye-catching run at York last time but he is not a horse without a few quirks and I’d be more interested in John Gosden’s Dommersen at this stage.
