Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Punchestown

Hunters Yarn

3.40 Punchestown

Willie Mullins has a superb record in the 2m½f Listed handicap hurdle and, of his two runners, Hunters Yarn looks well overpriced on the first show.

It's a surprise Hunter's Yarn's connections persevered with fences for so long as he was never the most natural. That lack of fluency was in evidence once more when he attempted to defy top weight in the Red Rum last time, and I'm willing to give him another chance off a 10lb lower hurdles mark.

The eight-year-old has had a light campaign and has always been a talented operator. He was sent off a 15-2 shot for the 2024 Arkle only four starts ago and may just come alive for the return to a sound surface as well. Indeed, his finest hurdles effort on Racing Post Ratings came on good ground two seasons ago.
