Paul Kealy's play of the day at Newmarket

Senior tipster

Woodhay Wonder

1.45 Newmarket

This Tom Ward-trained course specialist lost her unbeaten record at the track when third at the Craven meeting and she has her work cut out to turn the tables on the front two, especially winner More Thunder, who is 3lb well-in under his penalty. However, there are sound reasons for believing she can.

The four-year-old, a sales race winner at Newmarket on her final outing at two and the winner of her first two races here last year, was running on the softest ground she has encountered on her return and that just caught her out at the end.

Having been in the front rank throughout on a day when most winners came from the rear, Woodhay Wonder didn't get home, but she travelled better than anything until about a furlong and a half out, and she will surely be a different proposition back on quick ground.
