Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Chester

The Chester May meeting is one of the highlights of the season and, while many moan about the idiosyncratic nature of the course, I absolutely love it. Bumper cars at the tightest track in Britain just adds to the excitement and the 5f handicap (2.05) will be fast and furious.

A low draw is always a big positive around this track, especially over the minimum trip, but punters will be asked to pay a premium by taking shorter odds about those inside and three of the last ten winners of this race came from six, six and eight, so a higher draw isn’t a disaster.

It’s worth taking a chance on Kinetic Force, who is drawn out in stall eight but showed loads of speed when making all in a 5f handicap at Bath just 17 days ago, when trainer Des Donovan explained the sudden improvement had come from adding a tongue-tie.

The return to turf was also put forward as a possible explanation and Kinetic Force looks capable of an even better performance again with the tongue-tie retained. He will need to improve because he is up 12lb in the weights, but this will be only his sixth run on grass and he is unbeaten in two starts for Silvestre de Sousa, who is booked again.
