Cape Byron made the transition from top handicapper to Group 3 winner over course and distance last time in the Bengough Stakes. Various winners of that race have tried to take another step forward in this event and have failed.

Donjuan Triumphant, a soft-ground specialist, has been getting closer in this event over the past three years. He was beaten just over two lengths into third last year and has to improve on recent efforts to equal that.
