Find out which 'tough and improving' horse Tom Segal, Paul Kealy and Harry Wilson all fancy at Newmarket

The 1m2f handicap at Newmarket (1.50) kicks off the second day of the July festival and is the first of six races live on ITV on Friday afternoon. Three of the Racing Post's finest judges Tom Segal, Paul Kealy and Harry Wilson all tipped winners on Thursday and have come down in favour of the same horse.

Team Johnston have a superb record in the bet365 Handicap and they appear to have another good chance with Marhaba Ghaiyyath

Impressive when winning over a mile on fast ground at Thirsk last time, Marhaba Ghaiyyath ran a cracker at Chester over this sort of trip the time before and he might well be able to dominate from stall one under James Doyle.

Paul Kealy, Sizzlers

The Johnston yard has had a long association with Newmarket's opener and the chances of Charlie's Marhaba Ghaiyyath look to have been underestimated by the layers.

Johnston won the race two years ago with 20-1 shot Killybegs Warrior to follow in the footsteps of father Mark, who won it six times from 2013 to 2020, with not one of his winners being favourite.

Marhaba Ghaiyyath looks a typically tough and improving Johnston three-year-old, and if he hadn't been carried very wide around the bend at Chester on his penultimate run he may well have won four of his last five outings.

Harry Wilson, Cracking The Puzzle

Marhaba Ghaiyyath caught the eye when second to Topteam at Chester last month. He was forced wider than ideal around the bend but stayed on well to get within a head of the winner, who's gone in again since off a 6lb higher mark.

He had no trouble in seeing off a course winner at Redcar a week later when dropped back to a mile. The colt looks underestimated by a 5lb higher mark, especially with the return to further in his favour. The Johnston yard has won this five times in the past ten years, so he's likely been kept back for this.
