Feature contest provides an ideal opportunity for promising young stayer
Voyage Warrior
9.10 Sha Tin
2pts win
Savvy Six
9.40 Sha Tin
2pts win
Silver Fig
10.50 Sha Tin
2pts win
Voyage Warrior (9.10) can bounce back following an unexpected defeat to re-establish his reputation as one of Hong Kong’s brightest sprinting talents.
The three-year-old is the one to beat in the Class 3 5f handicap on the straight course, and with a more favourable draw (stall eight) he should make all up the stands' rail.
After two effortless wins, the Ricky Yiu-trained Voyage Warrior was caught out by Thanks Forever, who proved superior when they met at Sha Tin last month.
There is nothing of that calibre in this line-up, which should leave the way clear for Voyage Warrior to regain the winning thread, with the assistance of champion Zac Purton aboard.
The Group 3 Premier Plate should be an ideal opportunity for Savvy Six (9.40), the mount of Matthew Chadwick. He is a young stayer who has been crying out for a true test of stamina.
With natural front-runner Time Warp in the field, the race should be set up for the son of Derby winner Pour Moi, who has run some very promising races over a trip. He will be staying on with his light weight and is one for value.
The Caspar Fownes-trained Rise High looks a very good prospect but the handicapper already has him in his clutches and he will find it very hard to concede 20lb to Savvy Six.
The other good bet on this ten-race card is the Tony Millard-trained Silver Fig (10.50) in the finale, a Class 3 7f handicap, in which he will be partnered by Neil Callan.
Silver Fig had no luck on his previous outing when denied a clear passage on more than one occasion in the home straight, and the step up in trip is going to suit him ideally.
With a clear run from an inside draw, Silver Fig should enjoy a good run throughout and is set to play a major part in the finish.
