Evening Angles: three runners to note based on Racing Post stats

Newmarket July Course
Newmarket: evening meeting at the July course

Using the Racing Post's unrivalled bank of stats, we pick out three horses to back based on trainer form, RPRs and, tonight's wild card, the possible benefits of a gelding operation . . .

Trainer form

Treasure Me
7.55 Newmarket
Angle: the form of trainer Charlie Fellowes

Newmarket trainer Charlie Fellowes boasted a 36 per cent strike-rate before the start of racing on Friday courtesy of five winners from 14 runners in the past fortnight.

He saddles four runners through the day but the best may well be saved until last with Treasure Me contesting the 6f fillies' handicap at Newmarket.

A narrow second in Listed company at Nottingham last month, Treasure Me takes a big drop in grade after failing to figure in the Achilles Stakes last time. She has leading claims.

Ratings

Ojooba
8.30 Newmarket
Angle: joint top on RPRs

Magical Rhythms and Ojooba (92) come out on top on RPRs for the mile fillies' novice stakes but the discrepancy in prices edges the vote in favour of the last named.

Ojooba shaped well when third on the Rowley Mile course in April and was a well-supported favourite that day. The Owen Burrows-trained filly is around 5-1 on her second start, while Magical Rhythms, sixth on debut at Windsor, heads the market at 13-8.

Wild card

Elhafei
7.40 Newcastle
Angle: first run since gelding operation

Mick Appleby's horses running for the first time since a gelding operation boast a 17 per cent strike-rate compared to his overall strike rate of 12 per cent.

Elhafei fits that category and makes his debut for the yard in the 1m2f handicap.

The four-year-old raced with promise on a couple of occasions for John Gosden and has shown enough to suggest he has the ability to win a race of this nature.
